Discover communication in the nation's capital through an interactive hands-on approach to learning that gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the classroom, studios and labs as well as in the field and on location. Try your hand at 16 mm film, screenwriting, professional news writing, broadcasting, animation, photography, sports broadcasting or any of the other 30 classes we offer to high school students during the summer. SOC's Discover the World of Communication is open to all high school students grades 9 through 12, including those students entering 9th grade in the fall. Classes are taught by SOC faculty and communication professionals. Activities, guest speakers, events, and field trips are planned regularly throughout the summer. Past trips have included a Washington Post editorial meeting, being in the pressbox during a Nationals baseball game, visits behind the scenes at NBC, National Public Radio, the Newseum and AFI. Several students also got a chance to meet the President of the United States.
