’Working with Fire’ documents a prescribed burn on the Nokuse Plantation in Bruce, Florida. FSU professor and filed biologist Matthew Aresco discusses the ecological purpose of burning protected forest area for future wilderness health. This short film was made as part of the 2008 Classroom in the Wild program.
- Dustin Harrison-Atlas, Endangered species PSA series
This PSA series was written and shot for the Endangered Species Coalition, as they attempt to promote National Endangered Species Day on May 16th. The two 30-second pieces were designed to ask the audience to imagine what the wilderness would be like if they allowed species like eagles, bears, and bees to become extinct. The gorgeous images, shot in 1080i HD, are accompanied by dramatic music, simple narration and wildlife SFX. The PSA series is slated to air nationally in HD this May.

Stephen’s internal dialogue keeps him second-guessing himself and the relationship. Can he live up to Mary’s expectations and be true to himself? These outlines and rules for life are becoming harder and harder for Stephen to follow, whether he wants to or not. Despite the course laid in front of him Stephen is lost; this is Maps.

SCREENWRITING
Outstanding Short Screenplay- Daniel Maree, The Black Umbrella
An Arab is erroneously detained under rendition and when his plight to find justice fails, he struggles with his desire to commit terrorism out of revenge. The Black Umbrella is a raw, brutal, compelling political thriller that asks questions and forces one to think about the realities of the consequences of war. It is without dialogue, unsentimental, doesn’t hold back on the grim details, and rife with didactic messages.

The Duchess of Tooth is a feature length script about a young man, Francis Fizzlebig Fozzworth, who finds out that he is the grandson of the Tooth Fairy. He is then caught in the crosshairs of a plot to overthrow his Grandmother, the current Tooth Fairy, and restore power to an ancient and evil Brotherhood. Fiz will learn of his strengths and weaknesses and fight for his right to secede his Grandmother as the first ever Duke of Tooth.

Manny, a troubled young man with family problems, accidentally contracts super powers while recovering from a car accident in a rehabilitation center.

It’s a non-narrative piece on a wall in Manassas where some legal immigrants and illegal immigrants put a sign to protest against the anti-immigration law that was passed in Prince William County, Va.

I broke this story about the legal graffiti project with WAMU before anyone else covered it. I think it is important to look at graffiti as an art form when it is done without malice and a crime when it is part of a gang tag or something. This piece looks at the positive side of graffiti.

This film is a public service announcement for sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing, specifically gonorrhea and Chlamydia, that has been done for the D.C. Department of Health. Four actors stand in front of the camera and address t heir concerns over the importance of being tested for STDs. They give important facts and positive motivation for the testing process to teenagers between the ages of 15 to 19, the main target, who may not be aware they are infected.

In fact, were it not for the intervention of a mysterious young woman, he would have committed one of the most grievous sins. The beautiful young woman helps the gentleman see the importance of looking at the bigger picture and helps him to find peace in the end.

'Beer Picassos' is a documentary exploring the sub-culture of homebrewing. Through vibrant interviews with several members of the local homebrew club BURP (Brewers United for Real Potables), we learn that homebrewing is not about making cheap beer in a bathtub. Rather, homebrewing is a journey in cultural and culinary expertise.

’A Thursday Night with Code Pink’ is a short 13 minute 3 second Verite documentary chronicling the DC based group Code Pink on the night of November 15, 2007. The film follows a group of women and men as they plan and execute and impromptu anti-war demonstration at a local Federalist Society fundraiser, as they host President George W. Bush. The documentary also features interviews with some of the members and archival footage of high profile protests by members of Code Pink during recent congressional hearings and broadcast to a national audience on CSPAN.
