Student Organizations
American University has a number of student run organizations. Listed below are some of the organizations most popular with SOC students.
- PRSSA - Public Relations Student Society of America
- SPJ - Society of Professional Journalists
- American Observer - The American Observer is a weekly publication written, designed and produced by graduate students of the American University during the regular school year.
- SOC Graduate Council - The SOC Graduate Council represents the interests of SOC graduate students at American University.

The school offers a wide variety of technology services to students from e-mail accounts and computer discounts to wireless Internet. These benefits are accessed through the student portal my.american.edu. New students who have registered or paid a seat deposit can create a student access account in a few minutes. American University's E-Operations also provides recommendations for buying a computer, network space and websites, and anti-virus software.
SOC Technology Services
SOC’s Technology Services Unit provides direct, technical support to SOC faculty, staff, and students. Staffed by nine full-time managers and IT specialists, along with several specialized tech support teams (comprised of over 60 part-time lab assistants) SOC's Technology Services Unit is the largest academic technology support team on campus. Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE)
Build the skills you need for today’s workplace. In an effort to increase familiarity with some of the more widely used software applications, the Center for Teaching Excellence offers FREE technical workshops to AU students, staff and faculty. Register for one of these workshops, or learn on your own time with our online step-by-step guides. See the software list for which software we support.

American University Library
The AU library subscribes to a variety of electronic resources, including journals, encyclopedias, and on-line databases and provides trainings and tutorials to help students take advantage of the collection. The library also has an impressive archive of film and videos. Library collections include:

Kay Spiritual Life Center
The Kay Spiritual Life Center serves the university community as a center for religious life and spiritual growth. In keeping with AU's commitment to inquiry, diversity, service, and involvement, the Kay Center is an interfaith house of worship and a home to a rich array of faith communities as well as a crossroads where people of conscience, intellect, and spirit find a place for their questions and life struggles.
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Resource Center
The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally (GLBTA) Resource Center works to strengthen and sustain an inclusive campus community that welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities by providing support, educational resources, and advocacy.
